West Palisades Trail

Ranking: Easy Pie to Moderate

The Chattahoochee River is a well known hangout spot for those looking for adventure! The river offers places to picnic, swimming holes, and hours of tubing down with the crew. Believe it or not, there are also plenty of hiking trails that go alongside this beautiful river as well!

Let's break it down into three sections: river activities, hiking trails, and tips.

In the first section, I want to spend time discussing the river activities available. On the Chattahoochee River, there are several different day options to do. You can pack up your coolers with delicious food and ice cold drinks for a fabulous picnic. If you are planning on having a picnic, there are several eating areas and flat grassy areas to choose from.

You are also able to go tubing, kayaking, and fishing along the river. As far as I know as long as you don't have a motor on the river, you are good to go. For more information, please refer to here. If you are tubing, you can bring coolers, speakers, and whatever else strikes your fancy. Word of the wise- don't forget your sunscreen and a hat!

For the second section, let's talk about the hiking trails. There are so many different spots along the Chattahoochee that are open for hiking. If you do a quick Google search you will find a plethora of differing trail types as well as where they are located.

The trail that I wanted to talk about today is the West Palisades Trail. Located right off the Chattahoochee, this trail is roughly four miles long. The trail itself is easy to moderate due to the incline throughout the forest section. Once you make it through the woodland areas, you will see the river itself. I would recommend you take your time once you reach the river, since you have nice views and an opportunity to swim.

Finally the last section, tips for the Chattahoochee hiking area. The thing about this recreation area is that you should research before you go. Due to its size and everything that it has to offer, your options are endless. Furthermore being located in Atlanta, parking is going to be an issue.

There are several parking areas and starting points to begin with so be sure to pick an area you like. I would recommend that you and your crew arrive early since most parking areas are limited on space. Trust me, it gets intense and people will resort to street parking to get as close as possible.

If you are ever in the Atlanta area, be sure to check out this amazing recreation area!
