Sprewell Bluff Park

Today we are going to be talking about a state park that I happened to stumble upon during my journeys. The state park I am referring to is the Sprewell Bluff State Park located in Thomaston, GA. Positioned west of the major city of Macon, this is a nice getaway for anyone needing some fresh air. This is an amazing park to visit with friends and family. 

At this park, there are so many options for your visit. Upon arrival, you will notice that there are picnic tables, a HUGE river, and several trail options. Let's talk about the large attraction that I mentioned first, the river. I wish I had known about it, I would have brought my tube and drinks! I recommend you pack your bathing suit, inner tube, and anything you need for a fun day on the river. Especially if you are planning on visiting during the summer months, it would be a nice way to cool off. There are also a lot of spots by the water where you can chill and hangout all day. On our visit, so many people were out and about having fun, grilling out, and swimming. 

Now let's talk about the hiking trails. There are a few hiking options here which all range in length and difficulty. While we were there, we ended up completing two different trails. We hiked the Long Leaf Pine trail and the Sprewell Bluff trail, combined coming in at around 4ish miles. The trails located at this park are solid, easy to follow, and challenging. The heat also was a huge factor in making the trails a bit more challenging, I would say pace yourself. But as you know, or might not know, I am bad with heat so my opinion is a bit biased. Anyways, the trails are great here, some run along the river while others are kind of out there. Just be sure to spray yourself for bugs because they are abundant out there!

I would have to say that this park was a happy accident for sure. There are so many options for you, your family, and not to mention your furry friends too! If you are ever in the area of Thomaston I would plan to make a stop at Sprewell Bluff State Park for some much needed fun.
