Little Tallapoosa State Park

Hi folks! Are you looking for a smaller, quieter park that packs a punch? Well look no further than the good ole' Little Tallapoosa State Park. Located in Carrollton, Ga this park offers great camping and hiking options for all.

Although I have yet to camp at this park myself, my coworker swore by this state park. Her and her family visit every so often and always have a delightful time. From picnicking to hammocking, the campgrounds are spacious and delightful.

On my visit, I did see signs for campgrounds and picnic areas scattered throughout the park. By accident, I even ended up hiking into the RV campgrounds. All of which seemed nice and abundant for campers.

Now as for the hiking goes, I can attest to that. Now fair warning I may rant in this next section...it is possible. Okay let's talk about the trails. First, the marked trails at this park are lovely and I recommend everyone try them out. The Red Trail to be exact is both easy and accessible which is the one I am referring to. This state park has a color trail system with little Bigfoot decals throughout. Heed my warning when I say try to keep up with these trail markers. Once you decide to go in search of any trail other than the Red Trail, you are in for a treat.

Now take this advice with a grain of salt. Since I arrived so early in the morning the ranger station on site was closed. I wasn't able to ask any questions about trail recommendations and all I had to go from was a photo of the map I had taken. (Paper maps weren't up for grabs). That being said I followed along the best I could. While exploring I was able to finish the Red and Blue Trail with a sprinkling of other trails. Long story short I got lost. So lost in fact that I lost the trail a few times once I was out on the backcountry sections. For more of my Little Tallapoosa shenanigans please refer to my hiking video here

Now some of this confusion was my own fault due to I missed the Bigfoot decals at first. On the first trail (Red) I was too preoccupied with recording and enjoying the fresh air to take notice. Later on I did start to notice and then follow the trail markers as per norm. The other side to my confusion was that at quite a few intersections there were no trail markers at all. You had to pick and choose which way and refer to your map often. So if you are wanting to check out trails other than the only paved one, which I do recommend, talk with the park rangers. They are there to help and are great people.

I enjoyed my experience at the Little Tallapoosa Park even with all my confusion. The park is clean, quiet, and honestly a hidden gem in Carrollton. I had no idea such a state park existed there and I am so glad my coworker told me about it. I do plan to visit again and speak with the park rangers so I can find the trails I was looking for. If you are ever in the Carroll County area of Georgia, then I recommend you check this state park out!
