Ranking: Easy Pie to Moderate

Have you ever wanted to see a bamboo forest before? Well look no further than Atlanta's very own Indian Hiking Trail aka the Bamboo Forest Trail. Wanting to stick closer to home, my friends and I decided to look for some hikes near dear to our Atlanta roots. Luckily my friend mentioned this awesome hiking trail. This trail offers some great amenities for you, your family, and even your furry friends!

This trail has a well known off-leash dog beach, bamboo forest, as well as some great views of Atlanta. Now before I dive in, I was advised that this hike would be a flat easy hike. That advice was not true! I was looking for something on the easier side since this was the first hike I have done since having COVID. But sadly this was not the case, a great hike, but not as easy as I was looking for.

So let's talk about the nitty gritty of this trail. This trail is like most trails it ranges in elevation, zigzags, and has a river to boot. Coming in at around 6.8 miles, I would rank this trail as easy pie to moderate. It starts out going through winding through a beautiful forest with trees as far as the eye can see. Then you begin the descent into the mountain and up and down you go. Comparing this hike to other mountainous hikes I will say that it's not bad. The elevation changes are smooth and the terrain fluctuates throughout. Now if you are looking for a challenging hike please refer to my Blood Mountain post here. That trail kicked my ass for sure, I still loved it though.

What makes the Indian Trail so worth it is the tranquility of it all. Once you are out there in the forest you would never know it's located in one of the busiest cities in the South. We didn't even hear a distant hum of the highway or anything! This trail is such a great escape for a day hike with your friends or family without the commute. Plus, at the end there is this unexpected bamboo forest which is such a sight to see. I would also say that in the warmer months it would be amazing to bring canoes and hammocks to explore and relax. So if you are looking for a great hike with the option to go out into the city after then this trail is for you!
