Ivy Creek Greenway Trail
Ranking: Easy Pie
Hiking in the big city of Atlanta sounds absurd but believe it or not there are a ton of hiking options available! Take this trail here, the Ivy Creek Greenway trail. Located in the northeastern section of Atlanta, this is a great day hiking option!
This trail winds itself through the city of the Buford/Suwanee making the trek versatile. There are areas of the trail that consist of forest while other sections are passing by local stores. I will warn you that since there are sections that go into the city sections, it can be nosy but only for a short time.
The trail itself includes boardwalk and asphalt sections throughout. I would also like to mention that the trail is a good nice ole hike. It’s not a hard hike but depending on your speed walking skills it can feel long. Since this trail goes throughout the city, there are several starting points. I would recommend you begin at the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center. There is free parking and several trail signs to help lead the way.
Since the Heritage Center is where we began, that is how I will describe the trail. After parking, you have two different trail options. One goes to the left and the one that goes to the right will eventually fork off into two ways. We started off to the right since there was a class going on to our left and then chose right after we began. There is this very old house called the Chesser-Williams House with an informational tag there which is cool to check out. From there you will travel to the left and keep it moving!
Like I said before, this trail is a very nice change of pace from the hustle and bustle of the city. Don't get me wrong, I love going into the city but there is something to be said about getting out in the fresh air. If you ever have a chance to check out this lovely trail, definitely wear a pair of comfy tennis shoes!
