Cochran's Mill State Park

If you enjoy visiting state parks but want to avoid the crowds then look no further than Cochran's Mill Park. Located in Chattahoochee Hills, GA, this park is a great option for a quiet escape with friends and family.

While visiting this park, the first thing you will notice is the ample amount of picnic areas to choose from. There are also restrooms, parking, and a small playground for the little ones. Once you have had your fill of food and playing now you can turn your attention to hiking.

To get to the main area of this park, you will cross the street from the parking lot and picnic areas and go down the path. As you descend the pathway, you will notice a beautiful sight awaits you. First you will notice an incredible bridge right out of a picturesque movie. Then awaiting on the other side of that bridge is a stunning waterfall!

This area is very popular especially during the hotter months since you can get into the water. If you have kids, I would recommend the left side of the bridge for playing. The water on that side is calmer since it is further away from the falls and less rocky. While we were visiting most people were hanging out on the rocks or wading in the water here. I will say this area tends to be very busy around lunchtime so be sure to snag your spot while you can!

As you go past this initial area, you will notice a trail that seems to disappear into the distance. This is where the trails actually begin. At this park, there are a few different trail options to choose from so be sure to take a look at the map. Most if not all of these trails are easy, level, and well marked. Matter of fact I saw several kids and pets hiking along these trails so it is a great option if you have either. Along the way you will have views of other falls, waterways, and another bridge. Be on the lookout for wildlife as well! While we were there we spotted a Red Tailed Hawk and two different snakes along the way.

This state park is a great option for a family friendly kind of a day since it's located off a busy road and well hidden. If you are ever in town or in that area of Georgia, be sure to check it out!

**Local tip**- After all the fun, if you are in need of a delicious restaurant option then go check out the little town of Serenbe. There are a few options to dine, shop, and explore this spectacular hidden town in that area. For more information, please check it out here.
