Ranking: Easy Pie to Moderate

If you are looking for fresh air and open skies then Fort Yargo State Park is for you! Located in Winder, GA, this State Park is a great place for a relaxing day with family and friends. From canoeing to barbecuing to hiking to biking, there is something for everyone.

During our visit, we opted for the Lake Loop trail which comes in at around 7 miles total. Since we had never visited this park before we were ready to go! If I had to rank this trail I would rank it as easy to moderate, more so on the easier side. The trail is relatively flat with some slight hills spread throughout. I would say that it will be the distance versus the terrain that will make you tired.

For my first visit I hiked with my sister and it was cooler and in all honesty a perfect day. There was a constant breeze, it was cloudy, and it was less crowded. Now when I went back a week later to hike the trail again with my boyfriend it was different. It was about ten degrees warmer and it had rained the day before, making it a hot soup mess outside. That heat took it out of us on round two, but other than that the trail itself is gorgeous. You will have views ranging from the forest to the lake all throughout your hike. There are also some great spots to enjoy a nice hammock session or have a picnic with your peps instead. I don't want to gush about this trail too much but I will recommend you try it.

The trail travels through the entire park, at times traveling through camping areas. It is a unique trail that allows you to check out a bit of everything all in the same day. For instance, as we were hiking we spotted a designated beach area for swimming, super cool find. This State Park is wonderful as well as diverse in what outdoor activities it has to offer. Like I mentioned before, there is camping, there is a beach, so much to do everywhere!

I also would rank this State Park to be the most family friendly park I have been to so far. I know what you are thinking, "aren't all State Parks like that?" The answer is no. At least in my experience. I have been to several parks and each of them differ in what they have to offer. For instance, one park might cater to fishing while another focuses on biking trails. It all depends on the State Park. Don't get me wrong, I am not throwing shade to any park in particular because I love them all. I am just putting it out there that some of them cater more towards families than others.

Fort Yargo State Park is definitely one of these parks built with families and friends in mind. After thinking about it, I would say that this trail and State Park are in my top five that I would visit again hands down. So if this sounds like the place for you- go check it out!
