Georgia Renaissance Festival
There is something that you need to know about me. You have to know that I geek out on all things Renaissance festival related. I am a huge fan of every single aspect of it, from the food to the shows. So let me break it down for you.
The Renaissance festival, the Georgia one located in Fairburn to be exact, is a staple to me. Now before I go into a rant and rave about how much fun this place is, let me explain. If you are not familiar, this is a medieval festival that hosts good drinks, shows, and shops. The festival has an all day itinerary of shows and events throughout the park, to which you can choose from. The choice is yours if you want to walk around or try to attend every single little thing. Be prepared though, it is a lot of walking around so be sure to dress comfortably!
First let's discuss the food. If you are a fan of food truck energy or food on sticks then this place is everything you ever wanted. There are so many options from mac and cheese on a stick to turkey legs, corndogs to Oreos. There are also a variety of sweets and treats available throughout the park. Feeling thirsty? Well don't worry, there are several drink stands for adults and kids alike as well. If you are looking for something more bar-like then look no further than the pub crawls! There are plenty of options for this sort of activity so be sure to grab your friends and have fun. This is just a side note, but the mead is wonderful so don't pass it up.
Disclaimer about the food: I don't recall seeing much green options for dining. If you are vegetarian or vegan your choices might be slimmer but there are options! Just ask one of the employees and they will gladly help you figure out what you can and can't eat.
Second, let's talk about the attractions. There are a variety of options to keep you busy at a festival like this. There are shows with acrobats, maidens, and even dogs! One of the main events that happens a few times a day is a jousting tournament where you can see the King and Queen. This is a crowd favorite so be sure to find a good vantage point to sit and eat while you watch the knights compete.
If shows aren't your thing then there are only a million shops and side games to check out throughout your visit. There is a knife throwing booth, a petting zoo, and much much more. I could go on and on here but all the more reason to check it out and see it for yourself!
My last point I want to discuss is about getting ready for this type of festival. I have been lucky and have lived near this Renaissance festival most of my life so I have been going forever. Here is what I have learned after all my visits:
Grab a map first thing
Wear comfortable shoes
Bring cash and if not go to the ATM machines away from the main entrance (less crowded)
Get there early- for parking and less crowds
Wear sunscreen or bring something to cover
It will be very hot while walking around so wear something cool
Everyone is friendly, especially the woman who sells the meat!
Enjoy :)
